Testimonials

Artist Lynn Basa’s artwork for the entrance lobby of the Multnomah County Central Courthouse in Portland, OR. Project fabricated by Bullseye Studio, funded by Multnomah County Percent for Art, and managed by the Regional Arts & Culture Council.

I’ve been wanting to work with Bullseye for years. Even before my TriMet Orange Line commission, I applied with Bullseye for a project that ended up not getting built, but it gave me a taste for what glass can do. I wanted to work with Bullseye because I feel an ethical responsibility to hire local fabricators for my public art commissions, especially when the budget is significant, in order to recycle the funds back into the economy that generated them in the first place. Another reason is that the way glass flows is very similar to the effect that draws me to working with encaustic. Finally, I know that Bullseye is up for whatever job I bring to them and will get it done spectacularly. Tom removes all of the production obstacles while retaining a faithful translation of the artwork. It’s more than technical problem solving, it’s a translation of the essence of the artwork.

In designing and placing artwork in healing spaces (primarily hospital environments) I was searching for a material that was durable, timeless, maintenance-free and, well…a bit magical. Kiln-cast glass was the only material that provided all of the above. While it can be manufactured to fit a very specific design (to a tolerance of millimeters), it can also serve as a tabla rasa, a blank slate, within and upon which color, texture and light can be easily manipulated. I work with Bullseye Studio from initial design to installation, relying on their expertise to not only create an aesthetically pleasing piece, or grouping, but to insure tolerance, load and support structure are appropriate to accommodate their glass. I have worked with several glass companies, but for the past 15 years Bullseye has been my sole provider for cast glass.

I was extremely impressed with the level of customer service and knowledge when I was working with Bullseye Glass on a custom wine cellar project. They educated me on their products and capabilities and went above and beyond to get my project rolling. I am a stickler when it comes to customer service and the experience far exceeded my expectations.
